Opus Clip does one job and the whole product is shaped around it: you have long footage, and you need short vertical clips from it. A two-hour podcast, a webinar recording, a stream, a conference talk. That premise is worth stating plainly because it is also the buying test. If you have a library of recordings that nobody has time to cut, this tool converts a backlog into a publishing schedule. If you have nothing recorded yet, no amount of clipping intelligence helps, and you are looking at the wrong half of the market.

Getting footage in

The input list is unusually broad. Beyond YouTube, the platform pulls from Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Rumble, Twitch, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Loom, Riverside and StreamYard, and accepts direct uploads up to 10 GB on the lower tiers and 30 GB on Pro. Starter adds automatic import from a verified YouTube account, which turns the workflow from something you remember to do into something that happens by itself after each upload.

How it decides what to clip

The clipping model is called ClipAnything, and the claim behind it is genre independence: it analyses visual, audio and sentiment cues rather than transcripts alone, so vlogs, gaming footage, sports, interviews and explainer videos are all in scope. Most competing tools assume a seated conversation and degrade quickly outside it.

On the free plan, clipping works from spoken words. Starter adds the fuller model with visual object detection, sound and emotion cues and genre-specific curation, plus the ability to reprompt if the first selection is not what you wanted. Pro adds topic search and prompt-to-clip, which means you can ask for the segment about pricing objections rather than scrolling through candidates. Across every tier there is an AI copilot for setting timeframes and clip lengths, preset length bands from under a minute to fifteen minutes, and an auto hook that pulls a strong opening line to the front.

From Starter upward each clip carries a virality score. Treat it as a ranking device rather than a prophecy: its real value is deciding which six of forty candidates are worth your editing time.

Making the clip presentable

ReframeAnything handles the vertical conversion, tracking the subject so a two-person interview does not become a shot of an empty chair, with manual guidance available and moving object tracking on Pro. Captions are generated automatically with animated templates, auto emoji and keyword highlighting, and multi-language transcription across more than 25 languages. Layout presets cover dynamic split, screenshare and gameplay arrangements.

The cleanup tools are where the time savings compound. Speech cleanup removes pauses and filler words on Starter. Pro adds bad-takes removal, speech enhancement, AI upscaling, AI image and video B-roll, dubbing and AI sound effects, plus up to four brand templates and two custom fonts. If you finish in a professional editor, Pro exports to Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and supports bulk export.

Pro is 29 dollars per month and adds 100 GB of fixed storage, 30 GB uploads, topic search and prompt-to-clip, video B-roll, dubbing, sound effects, bad-takes removal, multiple aspect ratios, bulk export, editor handoff, clip analytics and a team workspace for up to four users. Business is quoted individually and adds sub-teams, permissions, SSO, licence management, editing and scheduler APIs, an MCP connector, CMS and Zapier integrations, 4K scheduling and download, social scheduling across multiple profiles and custom branding.

Who this is for

The natural buyer is anyone producing long-form on a schedule: a weekly podcast, a recurring webinar, a streamer, a coach whose calls are recorded anyway. One recording becomes eight to twelve short posts, and the marginal cost of that second audience drops close to zero. The free tier is genuinely usable for judging whether the model picks good moments from your particular kind of footage, which is the only question that matters before paying.

It is the wrong tool when the constraint is creating footage rather than cutting it. It is also a partial fit if your clips need heavy graphic treatment, since the templates are made for speed rather than bespoke design. Judge it on one honest test: upload a real recording of yours, look at what it chose, and decide whether you would have chosen differently.

Who should look at something else

If you have no footage to cut, this is the wrong end of the pipeline: HeyGen and Synthesys X create presenter video from a script, Pictory turns articles, decks and documents into video, and Zebracat builds social videos from a prompt or a blog URL. If your library needs long-term archiving, note that Starter media expires after 29 days and storage only arrives at Pro. And if a whole agency needs seats, permissions and client folders, that is the Business tier rather than Pro.

For a creator or team already sitting on hours of recordings, though, the calculation is simple. Upload one real episode on the free plan, look at the clips it chose, and you will know within an hour whether this replaces the editing work you keep postponing.
